The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance to all users of the Western Nevada College (WNC) e-mail system. This policy deals specifically with WNC, however, is supplemental to, and consistent with, the overall NSHE Computing Resources Policy as approved by the NSHE Board of Regents on 6/18/99.

  • Section 1: Appropriate Use
    • A. All Western Nevada College e-mail traffic connected via any means, must:
      • 1. Comply with the acceptable use and other policies of any network over which such traffic must be routed to reach its final destination.
      • 2. Not indirectly violate this policy by using services of another network provider to circumvent the intent of meaning of this policy.
    • B. Attachments
      • 1. All attachments entering through the e-mail system must be:
        • a. Received from a trusted source.
        • b. Be of a file size not to exceed 10Mb (compression software is encouraged to minimize file size)
        • c. Scan file with Anti-Virus software prior to opening attachment.
    • C. Announcements
      • 1. Be for purposes of, and in support of college related business.
      • 2. All announcements via the WNC College maintained e-mail lists will be transmitted utilizing the Bcc (Blind carbon copy) method. For example: Addressee will be the originator with a Bcc to the appropriate list (i.e. WNC-A). NOTE: this prevents a 'Reply All' to the entire list.
  • Section 2: Inappropriate Use
    • A. It is not appropriate to use the WNC e-mail system for any purpose that violates NSHE Code, or federal, or state laws and/or regulations.
    • B. It is not appropriate to use the WNC e-mail system that results either directly or indirectly in interference or disruption to user e-mail services or equipment. Such inappropriate uses include, but are not limited to:
      • 1. Distribution of unsolicited advertising or chain letters.
      • 2. Conducting non WNC or personal commercial transactions.
      • 3. Propagation of computer worms or viruses
  • Section 3: Scope
    • A. This policy applies to all users of the WNC system.
  • Section 4: Enforcement
    • A. The WNC employee will be notified of each complaint filed.
    • B. Upon receipt of the third (3rd) complaint within a fiscal year, the employee's Supervisor will be informed.
