Learn Job Search Skills from the Experts

Business Association Hosts First Event

Forward-thinking students in the newly formed Business Association at Western Nevada College aren’t waiting until graduation to start the process of searching for a job.

They have arranged a FREE professional development and networking event titled “Before the Job Search” on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Marlette Hall in WNC’s Cedar Building.

Scheduled to make presentations at the event are Miya MacKenzie, chief professional officer for Hop & Mae Adams Foundation, as well as Jeff Glass, executive director of the New Entrepreneur Network.

“Of major interest to the students was preparation for a career following school,” said WNC Business Professor Dr. Robert Whitcomb, who is directing the group. “Their sense is that one does not just jump into a job search. The first step must be identifying what your interests and abilities are. This requires some self-exploration.”

Whitcomb said that the Business Association will generate opportunities for students and support the community’s needs through various projects. Members will gain some of the skills necessary for employment after graduation, including entrepreneurship, resume writing, interviewing skills and networking.

Participation in the association is open to all WNC students who are interested in any area of business, as well as WNC alumni and community members.
