Observatory Planning Lunar Eclipse Viewing Party

Get a front row seat for a total lunar eclipse on Sunday evening, Sept. 27, at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory in Carson City.

The college invites the public to view a lunar eclipse through its variety of telescopes.

Dr. Tom Herring, the observatory’s director, will host the free viewing party and answer questions, starting at 6 p.m.

“The penumbral shadow will already be on the moon when it rises around 7 p.m., and the eclipse will reach totality at approximately 7:47 p.m.,” Herring said.

The event lasts until 10:30 pm. Northern Nevadans won’t be able to see another lunar eclipse in this area until January 2019.
