Donor Wall Shares Story of Generosity

Western Nevada College is fully committed to providing access and a good education for thousands of Nevadans each year. The Western Nevada College Foundation is helping to make that happen through fundraising and sharing the story of the college’s success. Fittingly, WNC and its Foundation Board have just unveiled a new multimedia, interactive donor wall that does just that.

A stylish, 12-foot-long wood and acrylic interactive Donor Wall has been constructed in the main entrance of the Bristlecone Building on the Carson City Campus. Featuring photos and donor names, as well as interactive campus maps, it tells the story of a vibrant college and ongoing generosity to benefit WNC.

Its first purpose is to honor community and employee donors. It also includes an interactive touch screen that offers campus maps and event information. Photographs of college students adorn the wall, breathing life and energy into the space.

“It’s important to set aside space at WNC to recognize the individual and institutional donors for a few reasons,” said Sean Davison, Foundation Board chair. “The first is to make a public statement to the donors that their efforts are important to the institution, and to have that statement be very inviting to those donors who visit campus. Secondly, it’s important for those who benefit from the donations to understand who their investors are. It’s important, in our view, to have the students, staff, and faculty understand just how important the mission of WNC is, and how many people are backing their efforts and dreams.”

“It recognizes long-term donors through the establishment of the 1971 society and the legacy giving program to recognize donors who have dedicated a portion of their estate to Western Nevada College,” said Katie Leao, the college’s Foundation director. “ The donor wall was designed to support annual community and employee donors, recognize our long-term donors through the establishment of the 1971 society, and the legacy giving program to recognize donors who have dedicated a portion of their estate to WNC.

“In addition to these groups, we have an interactive display that showcases our scholarship donors and yearly recipients, with stories about each of our scholarship donors, the history of Western and our current event schedule. “

Leao said that in recent years, at least half of all WNC employees have made contributions to the Foundation. “Some support student scholarships, while others support academic programs or student services and activities.”
