Governor Recognizes 'Always Lost'

As “Always Lost: A Meditation on War” continues to gain national attention, the Western Nevada College-created war memorial is also garnering more attention in Northern Nevada.

On Wednesday, Nov. 11, Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval issued a proclamation recognizing “Always Lost” as a "poignant memorial that brings home the individual and collective costs of all wars."

“Always Lost” was also included in the program for the fourth annual Nevada Day Governor’s Banquet hosted by Governor Brian Sandoval this fall at Reno’s Grand Sierra Resort and Casino. The gala highlighted the culmination of Nevada’s 150th year of statehood events and yearlong celebration.

Designated as an official NV150 Sesquicentennial Exhibit by the Nevada150 Commission, “Always Lost” will continue to bring its message of awareness and unity to communities across Nevada on a two-year Sesquicentennial tour sponsored by the Nevada Department of Veterans Services through April 2016.

The exhibit was installed at Nevada State Museum in Las Vegas this fall and was recently hosted by Great Basin College in Elko.

KUNR 88.7/Reno Public Radio featured an interview with “Always Lost” Project Manager Amy Roby in October. Responding to a question about the exhibit’s nearly 7,000 faces and names of U.S. military members who perished in Iraq and Afghanistan, Roby said, “The terrible irony is the Wall of the Dead is the living part of the exhibition and it keeps expanding and growing.”
