Donated Vehicles Enhance Auto Program

Two automobiles donated by members of the community will allow Western Nevada College’s Automotive Technology Department to expand its scope of instruction and offer students more repair experience.

Troy Avery of Carson City donated a 2000 Buick LeSabre, and Harold George and Roxene Dawn Giomi of Zephyr Cove have contributed a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe.

“This is absolutely wonderful,” said Jason Spohr, lead instructor in the Automotive Technology Department. “They work with what we’re doing.”

Spohr said he is excited that students have an opportunity to expand their knowledge with two different car models. The Buick needs a new transmission, so students will gain experience overhauling it, he said. The Hyundai requires major engine work.

“Students will get the experience of pulling the engine and putting in a new one,” Spohr said.

In addition to the automobiles, WNC has received 90 cases of plastic bags from Joseph Ouellette. They are valued at $35 per case.
