Helping Others While Having Fun

Students Turn Out for Halloween Monster Mash

‘They did the mash, and it was northing short of a graveyard smash.’

Associated Students of Western Nevada and Student Life presented a Halloween Monster Mash & Food Drive on October 31 at the Carson Campus, and many students turned out for the fun.

The evening began with a Halloween family carnival that drew about 100 participants. It was followed by a costume party and dance with at least 65 students, including 17 from the Fallon campus.

Students combined the party with helping the community, collecting donations as admission to the event. More than 2½ large bins of food will assist Food For Thought, which feeds hungry children in Carson City.

“The events were a successful kickoff to the ASWN food drive,” said Shelly Bale, ASWN adviser and Student Center manager. “In addition, it brought together community members, students from other campuses, and student clubs.
ASWN was successful in meeting their objectives for the event.”

The student club has a goal of collecting 1,000 cans of food by November 21 to help feed needy families for the holidays.

Jack Piirainen, WNC’s director of public safety, was impressed by the bash put on by Bale and the students.

“They did a great job with the Halloween Monster Mash and food drive,” he said. “The decorations, music and fun-loving group made for a fantastic event.’’

Shoshanah Melancon of Fallon won an iPad mini for best costume.

Attendees had the choice of paying admission or bringing canned food for admittance to the party.
