Wildcats to Face Preseason No. 1 Salt Lake

WNC Softball Home Opener This Weekend

Wintry weather in Utah is allowing the Western Nevada College softball team to open its home schedule a week early. The Wildcats will play a four-game series Friday and Saturday in Carson City against NJCAA preseason No. 1 Salt Lake Community College. The teams will face off Friday, Feb. 15, at 1 and 3 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 16, at noon and 2 p.m., at Edmonds Sports Complex Field B.

Wildcats Head Coach Leah Wentworth welcomed the news. “This change couldn’t come at a better time,” she said. “The team has been on the road for three weeks, it’s been a tough road trip, and we really look forward to coming home.”

Even with the home field advantage, the Wildcats (3-8) face a tough series. The Bruins are 14-3 overall, and undefeated in Scenic West Conference play. The Wildcats have already faced a tough schedule, including a conference series at College of Southern Idaho, which is ranked 13th nationally.

Wentworth says the series will be challenging, but she is looking forward to it. “It will be great to play on our home field and in front of a hometown crowd.”

Edmonds Sports Complex is located at 1555 Livermore Lane in southeast Carson City.
