Public Can Learn about Courses and Degrees

WNC Fallon Campus to Host Open House

The transition from high school to college can be daunting for students as well as parents. With that in mind, Western Nevada College is offering an open house on Saturday, March 2, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Fallon campus, 160 Campus Way.

Faculty, staff and current students will be on hand to discuss the many opportunities available at WNC Fallon. Attendees will learn about degree programs, student life, transfer to UNR or other schools, financial aid, how to apply, and much more. Campus tours will also be available.

The event is designed for current high school students and their parents, as well as adults and others who are thinking about enrolling in college classes.

WNC Fallon campus manager Ron Murrujo said that attending WNC for two years benefits many students. Students’ goals are wide-ranging, from those recent high school graduates who are starting on a bachelor’s or associate degree, to those seeking specific job skills or industry certifications.

“It gives students a chance to mature before entering a university,” he said. “We also provide a more intimate atmosphere with smaller classes, and students have better access to their teachers. In addition, the cost is significantly less than at a four-year school.”

Hundreds of students currently attend college at the WNC Fallon campus, and the college welcomes newcomers of all ages and interests. Marrujo noted that students can earn a two-year degree at the Fallon campus in just two years, in a variety of areas -- the Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Applied Science in Business, Associate of Applied Science in Accounting, or Associate of General Studies.

They can also attend part-time or full-time, and choose courses that will transfer to universities and state colleges throughout Nevada and around the nation. WNC counselors assist students in choosing the right classes to meet their goals.
