Lori Tiede Steps Into New Role

New Fallon Campus Office Manager is 'Coming Home'

Fallon resident Lori Tiede’s commitment to Western Nevada College can’t be disputed. For nearly a decade, she has commuted daily from Fallon to Carson City to serve as WNC’s director of financial assistance.

Now, the seasoned student services officer has the opportunity to provide her expertise close to home. This fall, Tiede became the WNC Fallon campus office manager.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to work at the WNC Fallon campus,” she said. “I am looking forward to helping enhance the higher educational experience of the Fallon community.”

The move will benefit the Fallon campus, said John Kinkella, WNC dean of Student Services.

“She has a deep understanding of all critical aspects of college and will be a real benefit to the Fallon campus and the community,” Kinkella said. “Lori is a strong manager and an excellent problem-solver. She is responsive to students and goes out of her way to help them.”

Tiede has a background in financial aid administration, enrollment services, research analysis, human resources and business. After graduating from the University of Nevada, Reno with a master’s degree in business administration, Tiede worked in UNR’s financial aid office and taught bookkeeping at Truckee Meadows Community College.

In addition to serving WNC Carson City students for the past eight years, Tiede was director of Enrollment and Student Services during the 2002 opening of Nevada State College in Henderson. There, she helped implement the student services information system.

For the past two years, in addition to her duties as director of financial assistance, Tiede served as co-project lead in implementing myWNC, part of the new statewide student services and class registration system.

“Lori has been an integral part of the student services leadership team and an active contributor to the success of our signature programs, including Bridge to Success, Project Graduate and the Summer Bridge,” Kinkella said. “Additionally, Lori took on the responsibility of being project lead for the new online student services system. She provided a steady hand as we navigated the new software and processes.”

Now, Tiede can provide those same skills and attributes to a community she has long called home.

“My new role means that WNC is invested in Fallon and is committed to providing student services here in the community,” Tiede said. “I envision being a point of contact for students, and assisting them in enrolling for classes and applying for financial aid.”

Additionally, working closer to home will allow Tiede to spend more time with her family and their interests.

“I graduated from Churchill County High School,” she said. “My daughter attends CCJHS. Without the commute, I will be able to become a more active participant in the community.”

Kinkella, who arrived at WNC in the same year as Tiede in 2004, said Lori has always exhibited “intelligence, professionalism and dedication to our mission.”
