Garret Yrigoyen brings defensive, base-running skills

Former UNR Standout Joins Wildcats Coaching Staff

Garret Yrigoyen joins the Western Nevada College coaching staff for the 2012-2013 season as the infield coach and third base coach. Coach Yrigoyen arrives fresh off of a very successful playing career at the University of Nevada, Reno.

As a senior he helped led the 2012 Wolf Pack to their first Western Athletic Conference Championship. Yrigoyen was a three-year starter at 3B and SS and even moonlighted as a relief pitcher. He was named a WAC Academic All-Conference selection three times.

In addition to his leadership and academic success, he was a standout performer for Nevada on the field, twice leading the team in stolen bases and finishing among the national leaders in sacrifice bunts his senior season as well. He was known as an excellent defender with a strong arm, an outstanding base-runner, and most importantly as a team leader in work-ethic. 

Garrett is from Manteca, Calif., and began his playing career at Delta College where he helped lead the team to the California Community College championship game. and finished the year as the state runners-up. He was recruited to UNR by former coach Stan Stolte after his freshman season of junior college baseball.

Coach Yrigoyen earned his Bachelor's Degree in General Studies, with a minor in health sciences and communication. He is currently working on his Masters degree in Education at Sierra Nevada College. His career goal is to coach college baseball.
