WNC Falls to Snow College

Despite a solid showing, the Western Nevada College softball team was unable to grab a win at the Region 18 Tournament at Salt Lake Community College. The Wildcats fell to the College of Southern Nevada, 1-4 and Snow College, 1-2.

In Friday's contest, WNC started strong, matching Snow hit for hit in the first inning. Sarah Cudahy singled and was brought in on a sacrifice fly ball by Ashley Hall. WNC would allow nothing more until the fifth inning; A single run by Snow would be enough to seal the win.

Additional WNC hits came from Jordan Thomas and Megan Hein. Pitcher Cassie Vondrak faced 26 batters and allowed only six hits.

Coach Leah Wentworth was proud of her team's work. "It was an all around great game. The girls fought all seven innings and didn't stop battling until the end," she said.

Although the tournament marks the end of the WNC softball season, the young Wildcats team will see most of the players returning in 2012. Wentworth says she looks forward to seeing what the girls are able to accomplish next year.
