B-Tech Student Named 2011 Regents Scholar

Curtiss Elliott, a Western Nevada College Bachelor of Technology student, has been named a 2011 Regents' Scholar. The Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents annually recognizes top students around the state for their academic achievements, leadership abilities and service contributions.

Director of Counseling Services Deborah Case nominated Elliott for the award. As the advisor for the college's construction technology program, she has worked with Elliott for two years. "He is an outstanding choice," Case said. "Curtiss brings enthusiasm, intelligence, determination, and personal commitment to pursuing his educational goals as well as to helping other students in his program succeed."

Elliott maintains a 3.68 grade point average, is a Carson City Rotary Club scholar, an active member of the Nevada Associated Students of Construction, a WNC peer mentor, and a volunteer for a number of community organizations. He has completed his Associate of Applied Science degree in Construction Management and plans to complete his Bachelor of Technology degree in the fall. His goal is to attain a master's degree so that he can teach at the college level and share his expertise with others.

The honor includes a $5,000 scholarship to help him continue his education.
