Three artists show works till January 27

Sculpture, Watercolor and Drawing at WNC Carson Galleries

Western Nevada College offers a diverse series of art exhibits through Thursday, Jan. 27.

An exhibition of life drawings in ink by Alison Harris explores the reality of three women through a series of drawings and paintings. In Harris' words, "Using ink forced me to accept my marks and move forward with the drawing. This process allowed me to let go of my expectations. The drawings became much more of an interaction with each of my subjects, mark by mark. In the end, each drawing surprised me."

Jill Brugler's colorful and playful "Stream" exhibit gives visual form to feeling using clay and steel. The artist explains, "The pieces on display, made from a combination of materials, speak to my vision of the flow of a stream. I did not want to know what it was I was going to make or what the pieces might look like when it was finished. A stream presents a visual story on the surface, but also on a microscopic level, with all the organic moving, changing shapes within the water as it flows."

Michelle Legras Peltier's "My Work is My Prayer" portrays her personal vision of what she sees and experiences on treks through Nevada's mountains and deserts. In her words, "I spend every weekend outdoors with my camera and dog, Floyd. We hike and ski, and if too snowy in the mountains we head out to the desert and snap photos of the outdoor beauty of these Sierra mountains and Nevada desert."

WNC invites the public to meet the artists at a free reception, Wednesday, Dec. 8, 5-6:30 p.m. in the WNC Carson City Galleries.
