The Western Nevada College Foundation will offer locals a free weekend of engaging music and storytelling on Friday, July 30, and Saturday, July 31, and in return, hopes participants will help support the college's two athletics teams.

Singing/songwriting duo Tom May and Chris Kennedy will play a free concert Friday, July 30, at 7 p.m., in Sarah Winnemucca Hall, WNC Carson City campus/Aspen Building. Seating is limited, and may be reserved at no charge by calling 445-3240.

On Saturday, July 31, May will facilitate a free workshop on campus about surviving in the music business, and Kennedy will perform railroad songs at the Nevada State Railroad Museum.

May's workshop, ""How to Establish a Living, Survive, and Thrive in the Music Business," will be 1-2 p.m. in Cedar Building 109 at WNC.

Kennedy will offer a humanities workshop, "Railroad Songs and Stories" at 4 p.m. at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, 2180 S. Carson St.

At each free event, attendees who wish to will be able to make a cash donation to help defray ongoing expenses for the WNC Wildcats baseball and softball teams.

The two artists have spent decades performing and refining their craft.
May is a folksinger/songwriter and guitarist who has toured and recorded for nearly 40 years. He has released a dozen albums and shared the stage with such notable artists as Gordon Lightfoot, Willie Nelson, and Alabama. He sings of the open road, history, good wine, and vignettes along the way from Ireland to Alaska.

Kennedy's songs focus on trains and travel, wild places and western changes. The longtime Wyoming resident has performed throughout the country along with Boxcar Willie, Tom Paxton and Bob Gibson. Together, the acoustic duo offers a tapestry of history, geography and romance, along with some good stories and humor.
