Triple-A Team Calls Up Justin Garcia

Former Wildcat to Play with the Durham Bulls

Former Western Nevada College pitcher Justin Garcia is seeing success in the pros. He has earned a spot on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' Triple-A team, the Durham Bulls.

Garcia pitched for Western from 2006-2007 and is the program's all-time leading pitcher with 19 wins. In 2007, he ended his season at WNC with an 11-5 record, a 2.73 earned run average, and 79 strikeouts in 100 innings. He led the Scenic West Athletic Conference in innings pitched, wins and games started.

Since signing with the Rays in 2007, Garcia has moved through the organization's farm teams, most recently playing for the Montgomery Biscuits. Garcia joins the International League South's leading team; The Bulls boast a 42-38 record.

WNC Coach DJ Whittemore recognizes Garcia as one of the smartest pitchers he's ever coached, saying "his ability to locate is phenomenal." Whittemore adds, "The WNC family is excited for Justin as he continues to advance through the ranks of the minor league system. We are very proud as well."
