June 14-25 - Math and Creative Writing

WNC Fallon Offers Kids Summer Workshops

Junior high school and pre-junior high students who want a fun and creative educational experience this summer will enjoy two workshops being offered by Western Nevada College Fallon campus.

Math Camp and Creative Writing workshops are scheduled for Monday-Friday, June 14-25. Math Camp will meet from 9-11 a.m., and Creative Writing will meet from 1-3 p.m. Cost for each workshop is $80.

Instructor for both workshops will be Jake Lewis, a math and language arts teacher for the Lyon County School District. With the summer program, Lewis said, "This will be quite different from the normal classroom setting."

Math Camp will offer hands-on exploration, group discussions and educational games. It is designed to help fifth through eighth graders brush up on their math skills for the new school year. Focus will include fractions, decimals, percents, solving mathematical and practical situations, modeling, solving equations, and more.

Creative Writing will use music, images and videos to experience writing as a fun activity. Ideas will be generated from group discussions and activities, media, and topics about which the students are passionate.

Registration is open at WNC Fallon Campus, 160 Campus Way, during regular business hours. For additional information, call Lewis at 775-217-6116 or Ginny Dugan at WNC Fallon: 423-5186.
