Wildcats Earn Regional Honors

The Western Nevada College baseball team has picked up numerous honors for the just completed 2010 season. Ace pitcher Kramer Champlin was named NJCAA Region 18 Co-Pitcher of the Year and will play for the NJCAA All-Star team. He enjoyed a stellar season with 10 wins in 11 starts, a 1.63 ERA, and 77 strikeouts. Champlin will graduate next week from WNC and play next year at PAC 10 powerhouse Arizona State University.

Champlin and Wildcats third baseman Kevin Taylor were named to the Region 18 First Team, while designated hitter Kyle Conwell, shortstop Spencer Ofelt, and pitcher Jake Waardenburg joined the second team. Honorable mentions went to pitcher Jeremy Gendlek, catcher Pat McMeel and outfielder Jay Skilton.

Head Coach DJ Whittemore said all 11 sophomores who played for two years in the Wildcats program will graduate with their associate degrees, and six are headed to play in NCAA Division I programs, including Waardenburg - University of Pacific; Gendlek - Utah Valley University; pitcher David Carroll - University of Maryland; pitcher Jordan Lewis - University of Houston; and pitcher Riley Bevill - New Mexico State University.

Taylor, Conwell and McMeel earn their honors as freshman and will return to WNC for the 2011 season.
