The Western Nevada College softball team started strong, but the Wildcats could not finish in game one of Friday's first doubleheader against North Idaho College. The Wildcats tallied two runs on five hits in the first three innings, but the Cardinals took flight after that, winning 13-2 in six innings.

In the first of two doubleheaders at Edmonds Field in Carson City, the Wildcats gave up one hit in the first inning before going ahead 2-1 in the second inning. WNC's only lead began with a single to left field by right-fielder Alissa Rampa. Two batters later, third baseman Lisa Senko hit a double to center field, scoring Rampa to tie the game 1-1. In the next bat, centerfielder Ashley Hall powered into left field, scoring Senko for the 2-1 lead.

NIC would counter with two runs in the third inning, then add one more in the fourth and fifth inning for a 5-2 lead. But it was the sixth inning that would prove toughest for the Wildcats. The Cardinals scored eight runs on six hits, in part due to two Wildcats errors, and finished the game on the eight run rule.

The Wildcats fell to the Cardinals in game two, 10-1 in five innings. Ashley Hall doubled in the bottom of the fifth. An RBI single by Paige Savage brought in pinch runner Chrissy Lawton to score the lone run.

The series continues with a doubleheader at Edmonds Field, Saturday, April 10, noon and 2 p.m.
