WNC Fallon Offers Courses on Babysitting and Infant/Child CPR

Want to become a better child care giver? WNC Fallon is offering two non-credit classes to improve child care skills on Saturday, Aug. 1 and Sunday, Aug. 2. Babysitting Certification is a six-hour, interactive class in which youth learn by doing, led by certified American Red Cross instructor Donna Miller. Infant/Child CPR will benefit anyone with an infant or child, babysitters, day care professionals and foster parents.

Babysitting Certification will meet Saturday, Aug. 1, 9 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. Cost is $67.50, which includes a copy of The Babysitter's Handbook. Participants who successfully complete the College for Kids course receive a certificate. Register at the Fallon campus or contact Cynthia Olivo at 775-423-5847 or olivoc2@wnc.edu.

The American Red Cross Babysitter's Training is designed for fifth through ninth grade students, ages 11-15, and is designed to help them:
Interview for a babysitting job
Choose safe and age-appropriate toys and games
Carry out basic care such as feeding, changing, and holding
Perform basic first aid
Ensure a safe babysitting experience and more

Participants can gain the knowledge and skills to be a confident caregiver to infants and school-age children. The classes use activities, hands-on skills training and discussion for a complete learning experience. Focus is on how to respond to emergencies, make decisions under pressure, communicate with parents to learn household rules, recognize safety and hygiene issues, manage children, feeding, diapering and caring for infants.

Infant/Child CPR cost is $47, and will meet Sunday, Aug. 2, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Adults are encouraged to take the course, which provides a two-year certification from the American Heart Association. AED training is not included. Register online at www.wnc.edu, under Fallon Campus Community Education courses: CMSV105C, F01, Infant/Child CPR, Call# 32738.
