Softball Team Looks to SWAC Tourney

Western Nevada College's softball team had a tough time against the nationally ranked College of Southern Idaho last weekend, losing two doubleheaders 9-0, 21-0, 6-3 and 11-1. Playing at Centennial Park in Carson City, Western ended its inaugural season with a record of 10-38, and qualifies for the post-season tournament in Salt Lake City starting Wednesday, May 6.

Although the team didn't win as many games as it would have liked, Coach Scott Rasner said, "the team got stronger as the season went on, and, barring a few injuries, we could have won more games.

"We're going into the post-season as the underdog and we hope to surprise a few teams in the regional tournament next week in Salt Lake. Ambar Huish has been doing an awesome job as pitcher and we hope to have Alyson Herman back. The rest of the team is fired up and looking forward to the opportunity to have one more shot. This is our chance to end on a positive note that will carry over to next year."

Rasner said he is excited by several outstanding high school players who have committed to play for the Wildcats next season. He said announcements would be made soon about players being signed from both northern and southern Nevada.
