Nursing Students Set Community Blood Drive

Regular blood donors know the great all-over feeling they get from helping out a vital cause, but at the end of the month, there will be an extra incentive.

Second year nursing students at Western Nevada College are hosting a blood drive on Saturday, March 28, in Carson City, Gardnerville and Dayton, and each donor gets a raffle ticket for a laptop computer donated by Harley Davidson Financial Services.

There will be prizes donated by other local merchants as well, including one by Michael's Cycle Works in Carson City.

Nursing student Ciera Staggs said the drives will be held simultaneously, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carson City Wal-Mart near College Parkway, the Gardnerville East Fork Fire Station #7, and Smith's Grocery in Dayton.

Staggs said she hoped the drive would result in 120 or more blood donations for northern Nevada. Those with questions or who would like to set an appointment to donate should call Katie at United Blood Services at 775-315-7287, or register on line at, sponsor code WNC. Staggs may be reached at 722-8410.
