NBA deputy commissioner to speak

Support Wildcats Fund-raiser Friday, Jan. 16

NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver will be the featured speaker at Western Nevada College's sixth annual Wildcats athletics fund-raising dinner. The benefit is set for Friday, Jan. 16, 6 p.m., at the Peppermill Hotel-Casino, Reno. Tickets are $100 each, with tables of eight for $700.

The event features a three-course prime rib dinner with hosted wine/beer, entertainment, live and silent auctions, and a raffle. Funds raised will support Western Nevada College men's and women's intercollegiate athletics teams. Community college athletics in Nevada currently receive no state general funding, making private support critical to their existence.

Adam Silver has consistently been named one of the "100 Most Influential People in Sports" by the Sporting News and the Sports Business Journal. He has also been recognized by Time Magazine and CNN on their list of "Global Business Influentials" which features 20 of the world's leading corporate executives.

Introducing Adam will be David Kahn, owner of the Reno Bighorns, Northern Nevada's new NBA Development League team. Kahn operates Southwest Basketball LLC, which owns the Albuquerque Thunderbirds. The Reno Bighorns are affiliated with the Sacramento Kings and the New York Knicks, and play their home games at the Reno Events Center.

Master of Ceremonies will be Bryan Samudio, sports anchor for KRNV Channel 4 (NBC).
