Give the Gift of Musical Theatre in 2009

Why give your friends boring holiday presents? Offer them a year of great moments instead! The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company is opening sales for its 2009 season tickets, offering holiday shoppers economical season ticket packages for a year of great entertainment.

Slated for 2009:
Grand Night for Singing, a critically-acclaimed revue that took Broadway by storm, including selections from Oklahoma!, The King and I, The Sound of Music, Flower Drum Song and more. One Star Tribune critic called this show "a slice of heaven." WNMTC's last production played to sold out houses at the Reno Hilton Theater in 1995: this is the first time they are bringing it to Carson City.

Presented on Valentine's Day weekend to provide entertainment for a perfect celebration, this show plays for one weekend only at the Carson City Community Center.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, a lively, comic and colorful journey through the Biblical story of young Joseph, sold into slavery by his brothers after his father favored him with a gorgeous colored cloak. His gift of prophecy saves him from an uncertain fate and helps him to rescue Egypt from famine. Animated with a high-energy mix of music and dancing from 50's rock to calypso to country western, this show is an international audience favorite. The company last presented the show to enthusiastic audiences in 2002. One audience member said "That wasn't only the best production of Joseph I've seen, that's the best musical I've ever seen in my life!"
The show comes to the Carson City Community Center weekends, May 8-17.

In November, enjoy the Rodgers and Hammerstein masterwork, The King and I. Winner of multiple Tony and Academy awards, this captivating and beloved musical is opening in Carson City for the first time! A British schoolteacher comes to Siam to educate the children of the King, a ruler intrigued by the West but entrenched in Eastern customs.

Their unexpected and unlikely affection for each other overrides the vast cultural differences that separate them. The story is embellished by some of Broadway's most beloved numbers: Shall We Dance, Hello, Young Lovers, We Kiss in a Shadow, Getting To Know You, I Have Dreamed and Something Wonderful.

The production plays at the Carson City Community Center weekends, November 7 through 22.

According to Producer and Artistic Director Stephanie Arrigotti, WNMTC enjoys enthusiastic support from patrons throughout Nevada and California, regularly drawing tour buses from the Bay Area.

"Season ticket-holders come from near and far in California and Nevada, including Wellington, Fallon, Penn Valley, Susanville, Reno and, of course, Minden, Gardnerville and Carson City. Some travel from as far away as San Jose," she said.

Season ticket packages range from $39 to $52. Tickets may be purchased by phone or in person at the Performing Arts Office of Western Nevada College, 775-445-4249.
