"Faces, Voices & Stories 2008-2009

WNC Announces Annual Cultural Series

Western Nevada College is presenting a world tour over the next several months, and anyone can join in along the way. "Faces, Voices & Stories," WNC's annual series of lectures, films and events, brings the world and issues into sharp focus. All events will be on the Carson City campus, 2201 West College Pkwy. Admission is free to most events.

The 2008-2009 series include:
"Around the World in 90 Minutes" - Thursday, Nov. 20: Get ready for a whirlwind journey with Award-winning author Marty Essen, who has visited all seven continents in search of rare and interesting wildlife. Essen captured thousands of images during his travels, and now the very best are presented in a high-energy digital slide show. His presentation is full of laughs, surprises and interesting facts.
Time/Location: 7 p.m., Marlette Hall, Cedar Building. Admission: Free.

"Cultural Globalization - The 'Similar' World We Live In" - Thursday, Feb. 26:
WNC Geography/GIS Professor Chris Ryan takes a look at globalization in a visual lecture, focusing on the loss of traditions and the larger changes in society. Ryan has spent summers working for the Education Foundation of the National Geographic Society since 1992, traveling and teaching in more than 50 countries.
Time/Location: 7 p.m., Marlette Hall, Cedar Building. Admission: Free.

"Wild & Scenic Film Festival" - Thursday, April 23: See films made by activists for activists, environmental films that are designed to provoke thinking and advocacy on bioengineering, water issues, wilderness preservation, citizen activism and more.
Time/Location: 7 p.m., Marlette Hall, Cedar Building. Admission: $5 for students with ID, and $8 general. Funds generated will be used to plant trees on campus.

"14th Annual WNC Multicultural Festival" - Saturday, May 9: Embrace diversity in our community with a full day of entertainment, ethnic food and cultural exhibits. In addition to live performances of music and dance, youngsters will enjoy the Children's Cultural Center. Time/Location: 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., Outdoor Plazas. Admission: Free.
