Softball Tryouts Set for May 31 - Nine Players Commit

High school graduates who want to take their game to the next level may try out for the new Western Nevada College softball team on Saturday, May 31. The tryout will be at 10 a.m. at Carson High School, 1111 N. Saliman Rd. Coach Dick Allen is forming a team around Nevada talent with eight women already signed from around the state and one from California.

"There is a lot of interest about the team, and we're expecting a good turnout," Allen said. While conference games won't begin until spring 2009, Allen is putting together four-team tournaments tentatively scheduled for the last weekend in September and the first weekend in October.

Potential teams include Feather River College, Shasta College, Sacramento City College, Solano Community College and Sierra College.

"I'm trying to lock up a couple more pitchers," Allen said. "Several others are interested and things are falling into place. I want as many Nevada kids as possible and you bet we'll be ready to go. We're off to a good start."

Allen said those who have already commited to play for Western include: Christa Casci, IF-OF, Carson High, Carson City; Alisha Perry, OF, Palo Verde High, Las Vegas; Kelsie Fahr, IF, Coronado High, Las Vegas; Neisha Washington, Hug High, Reno; Danielle Ming, IF, Spanish Springs High School, Sparks; Stephanie Meibert, C, Spanish Springs High School, Sparks; Frances Estrada, IF, Fernley High, Fernley; Lisa Senko, IF-OF, Fall River High, McArthur, Calif.
