Wildcats Tie North Idaho, Earn Victory Over Great Falls

The Western Nevada College soccer team (8-4-2, 0-2-2 Scenic West Athletic Conference) battled North Idaho College to a scoreless tie on Friday and came back Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Great Falls University in Coeur d'Alene. The tie gave the Wildcats a rematch with North Idaho in Coeur d'Alene on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m. to determine who will advance and host the National Junior College Athletic Association regional playoffs.

On Friday, the Wildcats were outshot 17-5 but held on to the shutout thanks to some good defensive play. Goalkeeper Allie Otto posted her third shutout of the season. WNC wasn't at full strength with starters Ashley Winter and Marina Tharin missing the contest due to injuries and Alexia Balmaseda not at 100 percent.

"We worked really hard to come away with the tie," Arthur said. "Rachel Van Roy, who usually gives us a spark off the bench, played 110 minutes and Jordan Forman gave us a lift playing center mid."

On Saturday, Forman scored an early goal off an assist from Balmaseda to make it 1-0. GFU tied it up, but Forman was able to score again late in the game off another Balmaseda assist.

"Jordan was relentless all weekend," Arthur said. "It was good to see an early score because we have been emphasizing that a lot in practice."

The Wildcats' regular season winds up this week with a visit to Corsicana, Texas, to face Cisco College at 1 p.m. Saturday and Navarro College 11 a.m. Sunday. "We need to play well this weekend and are looking forward to the showdown with North Idaho on the 27th."
