New Construction Management Instructor Joins WNC

In conjunction with Western Nevada College offering a new bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Dr. Jerold Stegeman has joined the college as the new construction management instructor. He is teaching several classes this fall including Construction Materials and Methods; Soils, Sitework, Concrete and Testing; Regulatory Agencies; and Construction Site Safety.

"I'm excited to be here and see the program going ahead," he said. "The community should be proud that WNC is offering its first bachelor's degree."

Stegeman comes to Western from the University of Nebraska Construction Management Program where he was an assistant professor. He was also an assistant professor at Louisiana Tech University, and a graduate instructor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he earned a doctorate in civil & environmental engineering. He has a master's degree from UNLV, a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University, and an Associate of Applied Science degree from Metropolitan State College in Denver.

His professional experience includes serving as an engineering consultant and principal engineer for the city of North Las Vegas, public works director for the city of Ely, and engineering supervisor for the city of Thornton, Colo.

Stegeman said he is looking forward to producing graduates who will serve community needs and be able to manage projects like bridges, skyscrapers, and "green" buildings. "There are 7,000 construction management graduates needed nationally and colleges are only producing about 3,500 annually," he said. "There are huge opportunities for graduates within the industry, and WNC is in a unique position to offer these opportunities to local high school and non-traditional students."
