Western Nevada College to Teach Women's Self Defense

Women will learn techniques to employ in the event they are faced with physical danger in a Western Nevada College community education self defense class this fall. Special Topics: Women's Self Defense (CMSV 098C, Call #35834, Sec. C02) will be offered on Thursdays, Sept. 6-Oct. 4, from 7-8:30 p.m. The course will teach women how to be more aware of their surroundings, how to use what they have as tools of defense, how to be self reliant, and more. Cost: $85.

In all, more than 50 non-credit community education classes are scheduled at WNC Carson City this fall.

Looking to learn more about coin collecting? Special Topics: Introduction to Coin Collecting (CMSV 094C, Call #31134, Sec. C02), offered on Thursdays, Sept. 6-Oct. 11, from 7-9 p.m., at Carson High School's High Tech Center, will provide an overview of all facets of coin collecting. Students will learn about the various types of world and United States coins, tokens, medals, errors, and paper money, as well as the basics of grading, storage, and preservation. Cost: $100.

Those interested in learning the art of wall glazing, antiquing, golf leaf, and marbling can take Special Topics: Wood Graining & Faux Finishing (CMSV 086C, call #38944, Sec. C04) on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Students will have hands-on opportunities to learn from Bob Martni, a master in this craft. Cost $100.

Other community education class topics include aviation, cooking/meat shopping guide, crafts & fine arts, dance, fencing, health & fitness, holistic living, home decorating, investments & finance, martial arts, self discovery, and video production/voiceover acting. Some of the most popular classes offered include CPR, Driver's Training, Traffic Safety, and the Motorcycle Rider Course. A full class schedule is available on campus or online at www.wnc.edu.

A 20 percent discount is offered to Nevada residents 62 years or older on community education classes, excluding Driver's Training and Motorcycle Safety. Senior students do not have to pay registration, application or admission fees, but must pay a $4 per credit technology fee.
