New Poker Run Highlights Tenth Annual Golf Classic

Have some fun playing golf and benefit Western Nevada College at the WNC/Greater Nevada Credit Union Golf Classic. The tenth annual event tees off at Thunder Canyon Golf & Country Club in Washoe Valley on Monday, Sept. 17. All proceeds will benefit special projects at the college, and a new "poker run" will reward one golfer with a bundle of cash.

Players will receive a playing card at each par three hole. The person with the best poker hand at the end of the tournament will win half of the total poker run money.

"We are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the WNC/GNCU Golf Classic and it just keeps getting better and better each year," WNC Vice President Helaine Jesse said. "Our golfers and volunteers love coming to the tournament, and I encourage potential players to sign up soon as it fills up quickly."

Golfers will tee off at 9 a.m. in a four-person, scramble format. Participants will enjoy a continental breakfast, on-course refreshments, and an awards barbecue.

Sponsorship opportunities include featuring the organization's name in the event program, banners at the events sponsored, event announcements and promotional materials. Donations are also being sought, including raffle items and door prizes.

The entry fee is $800 for business teams, and $150 for individual golfers. To sign up, sponsor, or donate, call the WNC Foundation at 775-445-3240.
