WNMTC to Host "Music of the Night"

It is the music of yearning, of romance, sometimes of madness. Some of the world's greatest composers have captured these passions to create the most moving masterworks of all time. From Andrew Lloyd Webber to Puccini, Gershwin to Bernstein, this is the music that haunts us - the music that gives form to the happiest or most painful moments of life - the music of the night.

The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company will present "Music of the Night" in two performances, Saturday, Sept. 8, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m., in the newly renovated Sarah Winnemucca Hall at the Western Nevada College Carson City campus.

Performing in the concert is Maria Teresa Arrigotti, well known to Carson City audiences for her leading roles in several WNMTC musicals - Maria in "West Side Story," Marian in "The Music Man," Julie in "Carousel," and Mabel in "Pirates of Penzance."

Arrigotti, a graduate of the University of Nevada, placed third in the United States in the vocal competition of the National Music Teachers Association. She has performed internationally, with credits in Italy, as well as in the Bay Area.

The concert, which will include masterworks of musical theater and opera, will also feature internationally known pianist Gregory Mason. His many recitals in the United States and abroad include performances in Barcelona, Madrid, Hamburg, Lisbon, and Vienna. His credits include engagements at Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Opera, and he has worked with dozens of luminaries including Luciano Pavarotti and Zubin Mehta. He currently is coach for the Sacramento Opera.

Guest artist Mark Williams will join Arrigotti in performing selections from "Phantom of the Opera." Williams, the music department chair at South Tahoe Community College, received his doctorate from the University of Illinois and performed professionally in musical theater across the United States for several years before settling in the area. He has played starring roles in several early WNMTC productions, including "Oklahoma!" and "Camelot."
