Western's Peace Officer Academy Cadets to Graduate

Months of study and physical training will pay off on Wednesday, Aug. 1, when 17 Western Nevada State Peace Officer Academy celebrate their graduation. A commencement ceremony begins at 4 p.m., in Western Nevada College's Sarah Winnemucca Hall, 2201 West College Parkway.

The Peace Officer Academy is a 30-week, 33.5-credit program offered at WNC that includes a combination of class work, practical application, and physical training. The program fulfills requirements toward an Associate of Applied Science degree in Law Enforcement.

The 2007 academy graduates include students from throughout the region:

Carson City - Vanessa Adrian, Lizbet Hub-Aguayo, Joseph Elefante, Bodie Golla, Christopher Ramos, Robert Scott, Tiffany Shore, Zack Westbrook and Jeremy Williams
Dayton - Craig Erven, Sean Palamar and Justin Ryba
Fallon - Albert Sevier II
Gardnerville - Brian Auchenbach
Minden - Tim Strobel and Ryan Young
Reno - Dave Pennington

Cadets who successfully complete the program are eligible to take the Peace Officer Standards and Training exam and can apply for positions in law enforcement that require Category I, II, or III certifications.

Many of the graduates are already employed by law enforcement organizations in Northern Nevada. Erven and Westbrook work for the Carson City Sheriff's Office; Adrian for the Storey County Sheriff's Office; Auchenbach and Young with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office; and Ryba with Nevada Highway Patrol.
