WNC Hosts Joe DiMaggio World Series

Western Nevada College hosted the 41st Annual Joe DiMaggio World Series Thursday, July 26, through Tuesday, July 31, at the new John L. Harvey Field on the Carson City campus. The tournament featured eight top Nevada and Northern California teams that are made up of players 18 years of age and younger.

The series began Thursday with the Sierra Sundevils taking a 12-4 victory over San Carlos. On Friday, the Tri-County Gamblers beat Mendocino 14-4, Trinity Maintenance defeated Vallejo 8-4, and San Bruno beat the Sierra Spartans 11-1.

On Saturday, San Carlos defeated Mendocino 10-0, the Spartans beat Vallejo 5-3, Tri County defeated the Sundevils 17-12, and San Bruno beat Trinity 11-1. San Carlos defeated Trinity 11-1 on Sunday, the Sundevils beat the Spartans 10-9, and Tri-County defeated San Bruno 14-12. On Monday, the Sundevils beat San Carlos 13-12 and then San Bruno got revenge winning 11-10 over the Sundevils.

San Bruno went into Tuesday's championship game needing to win two against Tri-County. They won the first game 11-1 and the second 7-2 to capture the championship.
