Five Wildcats Earn Berths on All-Conference Team

Western Nevada Community College's baseball team was well represented on the 2007 Scenic West Athletic All-Conference Team. Starting pitcher Cole Rohrbough and first baseman Andrew Reid made the first team, while starting pitcher Stephen Sauer, shortstop Kyle Bondurant, and outfielder Brad Carlsen were selected for the second team.

Rohrbough has a 1.31 earned run average, a 9-3 record, a .182 opponents' batting average, and 113 strikeouts in 85.1 innings pitched this season. He is first in strikeouts and tied for first in wins in the SWAC. Rohrbough leads his team in earned run average, complete games (3), shutouts (2), and strikeouts, and has started 15 games. He has signed a national letter of intent to play next year at Arizona State University, and was selected by the Atlanta Braves in last year's major league draft.

Reid has a .349 batting average, .a 465 on-base percentage, 45 hits, 20 runs, 20 RBI, 49 total bases, 19 walks, and six stolen bases in seven attempts this year. He is first in batting average and third in on-base percentage in the SWAC. Reid leads his team in batting average and on-base percentage, and has played in 52 games.

Sauer has a 1.99 earned run average, a 6-3 record, a .202 opponents' batting average, and 49 strikeouts in 67 innings. He is fourth in the SWAC in opponents' batting average, fifth in wins, and has started 13 games. Sauer signed a national letter of intent to play next year at Arizona State University.

Bondurant has a .272 batting average, .a 429 on-base percentage, 52 hits, 30 runs, 25 RBI, 61 total bases, and 49 walks. He is first in the conference in walks, second in total plate appearances, and tied for fourth in at-bats. Bondurant leads the Wildcats in hits, walks, and at-bats, and has played in all 60 games this season.

Carlsen has 38 hits, 35 runs, 8 triples, 34 RBI, 71 total bases, and 11 stolen bases in 14 attempts. He led the SWAC in triples, tied for third in doubles, was third in RBI, third in runs scored, fourth in total bases, and third in slugging percentage. Carlsen leads WNCC in runs, triples, RBI, total bases, and slugging percentage, and has played in 57 games.

Starting pitcher Justin Garcia and Carlsen were also named to the all-defensive team. Garcia has a 1.000 overall fielding percentage, and Carlsen sports a 1.000 fielding percentage in conference games.

After winning the Region XVIII Championship last weekend, the Wildcats will travel to the Western District Regionals in Scottsbluff, Neb., for the right to advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series. On Thursday, Western will play Central Arizona Community College at 4 p.m. and Western Nebraska Community College at 7 p.m.
