Ten Soccer Standouts Sign to Play with Wildcats

Ten Nevada high school seniors or graduates signed letters of commitment to Western Nevada College to play on its 2007 intercollegiate women's soccer team. The Wildcats added five Northern Nevada high school standouts, one student athlete from the University of Nevada, and four players from Southern Nevada.

In their second year, the Wildcats finished with a 10-8-2 record, won the Scenic West Athletic Conference Region XVIII Championship, and advanced to the National Junior College Athletic Association playoffs.

Athletes who signed include:

Jessi Chitwood: Douglas High School, midfielder/forward. Club team: Nevada Wonders Academy. Played on varsity team junior and senior years. Named to the National Society of High School Scholars. Awarded the Scholastic Art and Writing Award of 2006, the Silver Key, for excellence in Visual Arts. Planning to major in the medical field.

Samantha Perry: Douglas High School, defender. Club teams: INXS and Tenacity. Played on league championship team varsity and sophomore years. Major: nursing.

Rachel Van Roy: Douglas High School, midfielder.

Jessica Servinak: Home-schooled, midfielder. Played for Douglas High School. Club team: Tenacity. Major: physical education.

Ashley Winter: Dayton High School, forward/midfielder. Club team: Reno/Sparks United Crush. Honors: League MVP, first team all state, first team all-league (three years), rookie of the year, and team MVP (three years). Played on varsity team four years and served as team captain for two years. Finished in top five percent of class academically. Millennium Scholar. Serves as assistant coach for youth soccer team.

Devan Wellington: University of Nevada student, midfielder. Originally from Las Vegas. Played for Centennial High School. Club teams: Neuosport and Heat F.C.

Nichole Hackett: Arbor View High School, goalkeeper. Club team: Downtown. Played high school basketball. Served as varsity captain for soccer and track teams and was a state qualifier in the 200, 4x4, long jump and high jump events. She was the ROTC National Champion for All-Around Physical Fitness, All-Navy Push-Up Champion, and Clark County All-Around Physical Fitness Champion. Invited to play on Filipino National team and played for Olympic Development Program for five years in Nevada.

Kim Duke: Las Vegas High School, defender. Club team: Las Vegas Empire Soccer Club. Made the all-region team. Served as co-captain. Elected student body president. Millennium scholar with 4.3 grade point average. Ranked No. 25 academically in class of 510. Competed for four years on varsity cross-country team.

Cassie Romeo: Bishop Gorman High School, defender. Club team: Heat FC u18. Played on varsity team all four years. Named most improved player in 2004. Made academic honor roll freshman, junior and senior years. Involved with student government.

Myesia Tatum: Las Vegas, forward. Club team: Neuosport.

The Scenic West is a Division I conference which allows WNCC to offer scholarships and affords students the opportunity to utilize the Millennium Scholarship and other types of financial assistance. WNCC student-athletes must attend full-time and work toward a college degree.
