WNCC Recycled Art(icles) Exhibit Features "101 Brushes"

The always-popular Recycled Art(icles) Show is showing at Western Nevada Community College through Thursday, April 19. This year, another exhibit has been added to this annual collection that fits right in with all the recycled items. Fallon artist Tom Robinson's "101 Brushes" exhibition features used paintbrushes mounted to distressed wood frames, on display in the WNCC Main Gallery.

"I anticipate that people will, in the future, look at brushes in a new way," Robinson said. "These inane items, often ignored, disposed and overlooked, are nonetheless thought-provoking. Some are unusual; some are everyday. Yet consider their past. How were they used? How did they get to this point and condition?"

Robinson's goal is to someday have 1,000 framed brushes. Visitors can deposit used brushes in a collection barrel near the gallery.

The object of the Recycled Art(icles) contest is to illustrate the phrase, "One person's trash is another person's treasure." All exhibits must consist of things that have been previously used for something else. The contest is open to students, college staff and the community.

The top three places and honorable mentions will be awarded cash prizes at an artists' reception on Thursday, April 19, 5:30-7:30 p.m. and the public is invited to attend and participate.

The WNCC United Students Association, the WNCC Art department, and the Recycled Art fan club volunteers are sponsoring this year's event.
