Sign Up Now for WNCC Safety Workshops in Fallon

Interested in developing a safety culture in your organization that really works? Looking to learn more about OSHA and civil or criminal safety liabilities? Western Nevada Community College Fallon Workforce Development Center will offer a Safety Manager/Trainer Workshop Monday-Friday, June 18-22, from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., covering these topics and more at the Fallon Convention Center, which is located next to the college's campus.

"WNCC is proud to partner with the Sierra Chapter of the National Association of Safety Professionals to offer this opportunity," said WNCC Fallon Dean Bus Scharmann. "We hope business leaders will take advantage of this chance to make a difference in the effectiveness of their organization's safety program."

Forty hours of intensive instruction will provide a clear and concise explanation of responsibilities concerning employee safety and the related OSHA standards. Participants will gain a new perspective on safety, learn how to perform as a safety expert, conduct safety training that can change the way employees work, develop an organizational safety program, and avoid civil and criminal liability for accidents or injuries.

Seminar topics will include creating a safety culture; understanding OSHA; the status and future of workplace safety in the United States; civil and criminal liability for the safety professional, manager and supervisor; safety training methods that work; training development; safety plans that save lives; safety self-inspections; and a regulatory overview.

Also to be discussed are blood borne pathogens, confined space entry, electrical safety, ergonomics, hazard communications, hazardous materials, the Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard, inspections-citations-fines, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, materials handling, egress/fire safety, personal protective equipment, recordkeeping, workplace violence, walk/work surfaces, and weld/cut braze.

Upon completion, students will receive a Safety Training Specialist certification, a Safety Planning Specialist certification, an NASP certificate, and a WNCC certificate of completion.

Cost is $1,450, and includes several materials that participants will keep for their own training activities: training videos/DVDs, an electronic safety library, a comprehensive training kit, an emergency response guidebook, a general industry field manual, and a one-year individual membership in the NASP.
