Community Welcome to First Deaf Pride Day at WNCC

Western Nevada Community College's American Sign Language Club will host the first Deaf Pride Day on Saturday, April 14, noon-5 p.m., at WNCC's Dini Student Center. All deaf and hard-of-hearing members of the community are encouraged to attend, as well as anyone interested in learning American Sign Language.

"This is a free, all-ages event for anybody interested in celebrating this culture," said Julie Balderson, WNCC student and event organizer. "We're trying to raise awareness about deaf culture and provide information to the public on how they can support deaf and hard-of-hearing community members."

Refreshments will be provided, and there will be prize drawings, storytelling, information about the college's Deaf Studies program, and a representative from 4-H showcasing some fun animal friends. There will also be arts and crafts, face painting, free caricature drawing by a local artist, and games for children.

Info: Balderson at 775-220-8651.
