Bachelor's Degree Partnership Paves Way for Rural Student

Western Nevada Community College's partnership with Nevada State College has provided the opportunity of a lifetime for Hawthorne resident Kathy Trujillo. Trujillo, a class of 2000 WNCC graduate, has enrolled in NSC's new online program to earn a bachelor's degree in psychology.

"I was able to complete my associate degree exclusively from WNCC Hawthorne," said Trujillo. "I was afraid that I would need to move to pursue my bachelor's degree." She credits WNCC Hawthorne Coordinator Lou Thompson and his knowledge of the rural community and college programs with enabling students to get the most out of the college, distance learning and online accredited bachelor's degree programs.

Trujillo, an administrative assistant at the Hawthorne Mental Health Center, was born and raised in Hawthorne and has children attending college in Reno. "I'm amazed at how well these classes fit into my busy life," she added. "I can study, submit exams and participate in discussions as time becomes available during the day."
