"From Subdivision to Perididdle" to Appear at WNCC Gallery

"From Subdivision to Perididdle," a fascinating exhibition by Craig Whitehill, will hang in the College Gallery at Western Nevada Community College's Bristlecone Building, Monday, Oct. 16, through Friday, Nov. 24. This unique exhibition features a variety of oil paintings, along with colored pencil drawings of Perididdle, an interesting collection of cartoon characters.

Whitehill says he has painted in oils for nearly four decades, but in this exhibition, he adds the drawings of the whimsical cartoon characters. "There's Carlin and James, and a cast of hundreds, Whitehill said. "I'm glad to have them join my non-objective, abstract oil paintings that I call Subdivision."

The Perididdle characters convey a happy look at interpretations of a familiar situation, a favorite word, or a common phrase. "Perididdle are good guys in general and are never rude or vulgar," he said.

Whitehill has resided in Northern Nevada intermittently since 1968. "There's an anchor here for me that I don't fully understand, a sense that this is where I've always been," he said.

A reception for the artist is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 18, 4-6 p.m. at the gallery.
