"Janka" - Telling a Story of the Holocaust at WNCC

Western Nevada Community College continues its 2005-2006 free cultural series on Thursday, Nov. 3, with "Janka," a compelling, one-character play about a Holocaust concentration camp survivor. "The Janka Project" will be presented at 7 p.m. in Marlette Hall, Cedar Building, at WNCC Carson City, 2201 West College Pkwy.

Featuring noted actress and singer Janice Noga, and written by Oscar Speace, "Janka" is based on a letter Speace's mother wrote in 1945 following her liberation from World War II concentration camps. It details the compelling story of a woman's will to survive Nazi Germany and her desire to experience the American dream. Audiences will be inspired to reflect on the social, political and economic issues of the Holocaust and World War II.

Noga has starred on New York theatre stages in "A Tribute to Richard Rogers at Lincoln Center," "Zorba," "Fiddler on the Roof," and "Annie." She has performed in concert from New York to Los Angeles, and internationally.

Speace is an Emmy-winning producer, director and writer who has created a wide range of programming for the Public Broadcasting System and American Broadcasting System. In addition to the stage play, he also produced "Janka: One Minute of Perfect Happiness," a short documentary film that earned a Telly Award.
