Graduates from WNCC's Western Nevada State Peace Officer Academy to be Honored

Eight graduates of the Western Nevada State Peace Officer Academy will be honored on Friday, Aug. 5, at 6 p.m. in Sarah Winnemucca Hall at Western Nevada Community College's Carson City campus. Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents member Howard Rosenberg will be guest speaker.

Students in this year's class hailed from five different communities in western Nevada and eastern California. Members have already been hired by the Carson City Sheriff's Office and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

The Peace Officer Academy is a 30-week, 33.5-credit program offered at WNCC that includes a combination of classroom, practical application and physical training. Cadets who successfully complete the program are eligible to take the Peace Officer Standards and Training exam and can apply for positions in law enforcement that require Category I certification (police, sheriffs, etc.); Category II certification (bailiffs, fire investigators, juvenile probation, etc.) and Category III certification (corrections, jailers, etc.). The program also fulfills requirements toward an Associate of Applied Science degree in Law Enforcement.

The 2005 WNCC Academy graduates are: Cory Dunchorst, Jose Gomez, Carl Howell and Dan Jones, all of Carson City; Bob Barry, Fernley; George Schramm, Gardnerville; George Dosa, Reno; and Doug Hardy, Markleeville, Calif.
