Turn Trash into Art at WNCC's Recycled Art(icles) Show

Last year, more than 50 local artists used their talent, imagination and junk to create paintings, sculptures, useful items and indescribable "things" at Western Nevada Community College's Recycled Art(icles) show. The always-popular contest is back at the College Gallery for its tenth consecutive year.

The object of the contest is to illustrate the phrase, "One person's trash is another person's treasure." Entries must be composed of recycled materials, and the materials must consist of things that have been previously used for something else. The contest is open to students, college staff and the community.

The top three places and honorable mentions will be awarded at an artists' reception; cash prizes will be awarded for Best of Show ($100), Most Creative ($75), and Most Useful ($75).

Entry forms will be available at the information desk in the Bristlecone Building April 4-8, and entries must be dropped off April 6-8, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the information desk in the lobby of the Bristlecone Building at WNCC's Carson City campus, 2201 West College Parkway.

Entries will be displayed April 11-29, which includes Earth Week, with the artists' reception Thursday, April 21, 5:30-7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend and participate.
