WNCC Reading Class Beats Oprah

Lovers of good books who want to get beyond Oprah's suggestions will enjoy Western Nevada Community College's Contemporary Literature class this spring. Professor Ursula Carlson, who has studied fiction writing with Kurt Vonnegut and Richard Yates, teaches the three-credit class (ENG 275, Sec. C01, call #13296). Students will read four of the most skilled and acclaimed contemporary authors writing today: American short story writer Richard Ford ("A Multitude of Sins"), Nobel Prize-winner Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Lorrie Moore and Alice Munro.

The class is on Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:30-6:45 p.m., at the Carson City campus, 2201 West College Parkway. Register on the college web site at www.wnc.edu. Spring semester classes begin Monday, Jan. 24.
