WNMTC Opens Season Ticket Sales For 15th Anniversary Season

The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company of Western Nevada Community College is celebrating its 15th anniversary season with a year of blockbuster shows, including the recently released Broadway spectacular, Disney's "Beauty and the Beast." Economical season ticket packages are now on sale for holiday giving.

Slated for 2005:

"The Fantasticks," the longest running musical in the world, opens in March. This is a moving tale of young lovers who become disillusioned with their romance, only to discover a more mature relationship. Famous songs from the show include "Try To Remember" and "Soon It's Gonna Rain."

Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" comes to the Carson City Community Center in May. Nominated for nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, this Disney blockbuster features songs like "Belle," "Gaston" and "Be Our Guest."

September brings Gershwin's Tony-Award-winning musical, "Crazy For You," where boy meets girl in Deadrock, Nevada. Critics call the show an "old-fashioned, good-natured, tap-dance-til-the-stage-shakes celebration." Unforgettable show tunes include "Someone To Watch Over Me," "Embraceable You," "They Can't Take That Away From Me" and "I Got Rhythm."

The season closes in November with the Broadway masterwork, "Fiddler on the Roof." The show follows Tevye, a poor dairyman who tries to uphold traditional values as his daughters fall in love and marry, and as his fragile society succumbs to the rule of Czarist Russia. The humorous and touching plot is animated with classic numbers: "If I Were A Rich Man," "Sunrise, Sunset," "Matchmaker," and "Tradition."

Season ticket packages start as low as $48 to $60 for people who can commit to show dates when they buy their tickets (Pick-a-Color tickets). Prices for those who prefer to reserve their performance date two weeks before the show range from $52 to $64.

According to WNMTC Producer and Artistic Director Stephanie Arrigotti, season ticket-holders come from many areas in California and Nevada, including Fallon, Penn Valley, Susanville, Wellington, Reno and, of course, Minden, Gardnerville and Carson City. Some come from as far away as San Jose.

"We also have people who initially came on tour buses to see our shows from the Bay Area, then chose to buy season tickets for themselves and their friends and drive up on their own," she said.

Ticket sales for the company have been strong, despite a national downward trend in subscriptions.

"We keep our prices low to make the shows affordable our audiences, but work hard to keep the quality high. Our season ticket-holders also enjoy the benefit of getting first pick of seats when we open the house. They are important to us, and we do what we can to let them know that," Arrigotti said.

Tickets may be purchased by phone at 775-445-4249.
